CONFIDENTIALITY
Confidentiality is a requirement professionally and ethically with the Australian Counselling Association (ACA).
Your information is kept confidential, and a record of the session is kept as required by law.
Sometimes there are circumstances where your information may be shared, and these include, but not limited to the following situations:
-
If you give written permission for a specific purpose, e.g. to contact your doctor or other health care professional, another therapist, family member
-
If required by a court order (subpoenaed)
-
If there are perceived risks (harm) to yourself or to others
-
If any information is shared that requires mandatory reporting by law including if it is believed a child (under 18 years old) is deemed at risk or threat, use of and/or distribution of underage pornography or illegal images
COUPLE / FAMILY ‘NO SECRETS POLICY’
Please note I have a 'No secrets policy' when working with you as a couple or family. In this case, a couple or family (the treatment unit) is the client. This policy is intended to allow me to continue to treat the couple or family by preventing, to the extent possible, a conflict of interest to arise where an individual's interests may not be consistent with the interests of the unit being treated.
If you are sharing sensitive information or documents via email, you are strongly encouraged to use password-protection or other secure links.
Please note I do not do anything that is reportable to the court in my clinical work; that is, I do not write reports for the court. If there is a court order in place relating to you, please make this known prior to the commencement of counselling.
Whether sessions are held online or in person you are strictly NOT permitted to make any recordings or take pictures including screenshots for any part of the session. An exception is made for taking a picture of a recommended resource with permission of both the counsellor and client(s).
